Tanya Nichols, CFP®

Financial Advisor

Tanya has built her financial planning practice by identifying a select number of clients’ goals and directly connecting their financial situations to their plans for the future. She transitioned her practice and her clients from Wells Fargo Advisors to join Ascential Wealth Advisors as a partner and Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner in 2014. Earlier in her career, Tanya was with U.S. Bancorp Investments and Piper Jaffray.

Tanya graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth, where she majored in finance. After more than 17 years in her field, she still values ongoing education and stays on the leading edge of the profession. “In order to continue to give our clients our best advice, we should always be looking for ways to innovate,” she says. As a member of the CFP® Board’s Council on Examinations in Washington D.C., she stays connected with leaders in the industry to help her do just that. The Council, a group of seven CFP® professionals from around the country, provides the CFP® Board with recommendations regarding the development and administration of the CFP® Certification Exam.

Tanya believes learning from her clients is a result of listening, paying attention and meeting with them regularly. “By listening to my clients and working to understand their underlying motives, hopes and concerns, I can help them with their financial decision-making more effectively. It’s important to pay attention to things other than just money and investments, as they can often influence major financial decisions in more ways than one might expect.”

As an industry veteran, she is conservative, goal-oriented and fully vested in her clients. “Real financial solutions require planning, discipline and common sense. The objectives for every meeting are set by the client’s story, not mine. My goal is to be able to help them understand their situation in a way that makes sense to them, and to put into context how any current events or major life changes might impact their financial story,” Tanya says.

Committed to her community, Tanya is on the board of the Arrowhead Estate Planning Council and the Miller-Dwan Foundation, and is current Board Chair at the Duluth Bethel.

Tanya and her husband, Mike, live in Duluth. They have four children. They enjoy watching their kids play hockey and spending time at their family cabin. When she has time to herself, Tanya enjoys reading at the tea shop, planning events for her Girl Scout troop, running and CrossFit.
